We were approached by a woman in her 50s. She needed to sell her mothers’ house “as is”. The daughter was planning on moving her mother with her. She was going to have to take a bedroom from one of her children, move him with his sister so they could have a place for grandma.
The irony of the situation is that grandma’s house is a 3,400 square foot house with 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. Dated but no major repairs were needed. And it is within 5 miles from the daughter’s house.
During our conversations with the daughter (over coffee and delicious home-made Bundt cake) she indicated that she could not afford to put her mom in a care facility. Grandma is mobile, but needs assistance with remembering to take medications, cooking, cleaning and daily needs. Unfortunately neither daughter or grandma were financially set to pay for home care, or any other care for that matter. So their only option was to sell the house, save the money for medical rainy days and for some of the additional expenses incurred by moving grandma to the daughter’s house.
Our specialty is to find creative win-win ways for everyone. So we found a partner that was able to buy the house to convert it into a residential assisted living facility. But not only that! Part of the deal is that grandma is going to return to her home for life! And as part of the purchase an agreement was reached to make monthly payments to the family for the support of grandma until the end of her road.
Can it be better than this? We are here to help, always in good faith.
