For those that did not follow the details of this unfortunate disaster, hurricane Otis went from tropical storm to a category 5 hurricane in less than 6 hours. And it hit the Mexican tourist city of Acapulco head on on 10/26/23. Even if the US coverage of the situation has not been extensive, meteorologists all over the world are reviewing the causes and effects of something that has not been seen before.
And what about all the records that the heat in the city of Houston broke this year alone? Along with the drought that came with it?
In the real estate world, events like this are being translated into higher insurance premiums. The insurance industry is experiencing a steep decrease on renewals as they new premiums are becoming unattainable to the regular American. Only the households that carry a mortgage can be count on consistently, due to the requirement from lenders.
We may be too late, but this may also be the time to review our habits and what we can do to help our planet. We all have different positions and opinions, but hopefully we can all take actions that can change our future, and the one of the younger generations.
